On Saturday, October 5, Doherty, 20, live-streamed himself driving his $200,000 McLaren sports car on a Miami highway alongside his friend, Michael. During the stream, Doherty appeared distracted by his phone while driving, resulting in the car skidding on the wet road and crashing into a barrier.
Although the footage became blurry after the crash, audio captured the two friends calling for help from passing drivers. While the video was later removed from Kick, it continued to circulate across other social media platforms.
Once outside the wrecked vehicle, Doherty shockingly continued filming and asked his injured, visibly ble*ding friend if he was okay. He then expressed frustration over the damage to his custom McLaren and, to the outrage of many, asked his friend to start recording on his phone despite his injur!es.
The streamer’s actions have been met with severe backlash, with viewers criticizing him for prioritizing content creation over safety. Many expressed disbelief that Doherty would ask his injured friend to film, and some have called for legal consequences, especially if phone use while driving is confirmed as the cause of the crash.
Doherty later posted a new video on his YouTube channel titled “we almost died,” showcasing the aftermath of the crash and the car being towed. The video has been poorly received, garnering 13,000 dislikes compared to just 3,000 likes.
