Businesswoman Dies from Complications After Six Plastic Surgeries in Brazil
A 24-year-old businesswoman has tragically died from complications following six plastic surgeries at a clinic in Sobral, a city in northeastern Brazil.
Viviane Monte underwent the procedures on August 31 and spent 20 days in the intensive care unit before passing away last Thursday, just one day before her birthday.
Her boyfriend of six years, Renan Santiago, told the Brazilian news outlet G1 that Viviane had spent around $7,300 on the surgeries, which included br*ast reduction, buttock fat grafting, and liposuction on her stomach, arms, back, and neck.
Santiago shared that Monte had long dreamed of having a br*ast reduction and had recently wanted to remove fat from her abdomen, feeling she had gained extra weight.
He explained that Monte found a doctor who agreed to perform both surgeries, but she was then persuaded to undergo four additional procedures, including neck liposuction, which the doctor offered to do for free.
Before the surgery, Monte was placed on a weight-loss program and underwent several tests to ensure she was eligible for all the procedures.
Santiago reported that Monte was discharged the day after her surgeries but began feeling unwell on September 2, particularly struggling with an inability to urinate.
The surgeon, whose identity has not been disclosed by Monte’s family, advised her to visit the nearest emergency care center. There, she went into cardiac arrest but was successfully revived.
Over the following days, Monte’s condition worsened. She developed bacterial and fungal infections, required two blood transfusions, and her surgical wounds on her br*asts began to reopen. She also experienced discharge from both arms.
Santiago accused the surgeon of negligence, stating, “He didn’t provide proper care… he didn’t suggest fewer procedures.” He emphasized that the doctor was fully aware of the risks but failed to inform Monte.
“She had no idea,” Santiago said. “She only had a dream of having the surgery. And she went on to live her dream.” The Ceará State Department of Public Safety is now investigating Monte’s death.
