Tourist Falls 100 meters To Her Death in Spain After Tumbling From a Mountain Top.

A 57-year-old Belgian tourist died after falling from a cliff while on vacation in Spain. She was hiking with her daughter in the Canary Islands when the accident occurred. The incident happened at Roque Nublo, a high peak and popular hiking spot on Gran Canaria. The fall occurred shortly after 1pm on Monday, prompting her daughter to call emergency services. Despite paramedics arriving quickly by helicopter, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Video footage released by the emergency services of the Canary Islands captured the urgent moment when paramedics were dispatched via helicopter to the site where the 57-year-old woman had fallen.

The rescue team was able to retrieve the tourist’s body and transport it to the helipad at Pozo de las Nieves, another peak on the island. There, the body was handed over to the legal authorities for formal identification and an autopsy.

The Spanish Guardia Civil told Spain’s EFE news agency that the incident was an accidental fall.

An official statement from the Canary Islands Government detailed the events: “At 1:17pm, the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) of the Canary Islands Government received a report of an individual falling in the Roque Nublo region. Emergency services were promptly engaged.

“The GES helicopter’s rescue team reached the individual, who had suffered a fall from a significant height, and determined that the injuries were fatal.

“Following proper authorization, the deceased’s body was recovered and moved to the helipad at Pozo de Las Nieves, where it was submitted to the jurisdiction of the judicial authorities.”

The SUC medical helicopter landed at the base of Roque Nublo, but after confirming the fatality, it left the site.

The response operation included firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium and officers from the Guardia Civil.
