Sir Alex Ferguson has reduced the price of his luxurious Cheshire mansion by a quarter of a million pounds as he persists in finding a buyer, having listed the property three months ago.
The Manchester United icon placed the house on the market for £3.5 million following the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Lady Cathy, who passed away at the age of 84 after 57 years of marriage to the former manager.
Sir Alex affectionately referred to Lady Cathy as ‘his bedrock,’ with the couple having met in 1964. Her funeral was attended by numerous well-known figures from the football world and beyond.
Following the passing of his partner, Ferguson listed his property situated in Wilmslow, Cheshire. However, attracting buyers has proven challenging, prompting him to lower the asking price to £3.25 million. Estate agents have characterized the mansion as “deceptively spacious” and “impressive,” situated on one of Cheshire’s most “desirable” roads.
Featuring a breathtaking reception area adorned with a wrap-around staircase and an elegant chandelier, the property exudes grandeur. Additionally, it includes a games room equipped with a snooker table and carpets in the Ferguson clan tartan.
The five-bedroom residence, each with en suite bathrooms, showcases an open-plan kitchen and meticulously maintained lawns. The kitchen boasts a striking granite work surface, a walk-in pantry and cupboard, breakfast bar-style seating, and double-glazed patio doors leading out to the garden, as per the listing. The living room is adorned with double-glazed patio doors, a large speaker system, and a ‘flame coal effect gas fire’ to evoke a cozy ambiance.
The meticulously landscaped garden features a stunning stone-flagged patio, while the flower beds are abundantly stocked with various trees, plants, and hedgerows, offering privacy. Immaculately designed interiors with modern fittings, soft lighting, and expansive windows characterize the home.
Photographs of the mansion provide a glimpse into the couple’s life, with images and mementos of the football legend’s experiences adorning the property.
Moreover, the residence features its very own gym, a dressing room, a double garage, and a bar area. Ferguson’s illustrious career in the game is one of the most celebrated, having amassed 38 honors during his tenure at the Red Devils, including 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, and five FA Cups.
Previously sold for £2.3 million in 2007, the property is currently being offered without a chain. Ferguson has since relocated to another property in Cheshire, investing £1.2 million in a new home to be closer to his grandchildren and his son Darren in Goostrey.
