The acclaimed Colombian singer Shakira Mebarak has expressed her admiration for the Afrofusion artist Burna Boy and the Afrobeats music genre.

In her recent Rolling Stone cover session at age 47, Shakira discussed her lifestyle choices and the musical genres that inspire her. Recently, Afrobeats has emerged as a significant cultural export from Africa.

In 2023, Afrobeats garnered global recognition, with top Nigerian artists like Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy hosting some of the most attended concerts worldwide.

In the same interview, Shakira, famous for “Waka Waka,” described her musical style as diverse, authentic, and grounded, emphasizing her special preference for Afrobeats.

She especially praised Burna Boy, noting him as her favorite and sharing that his songs are a staple on her playlist.

Moreover, Shakira expressed her admiration for the rising talent of Tyla, a South African singer.

My musical taste is diverse, genuine, and authentic. I especially enjoy listening to Afrobeats while driving at night, with Tyla and Burna Boy being my top choices, particularly Burna.

Shakira’s music career began at age 13 with Sony Music Colombia, and she gained popularity in Latin America with her albums ‘Pies Descalzos’ (1995) and ‘Dónde Están los Ladrones?’ (1998).
