Nigeria’s Oluwafemiayo Sets World Record and Wins Gold at Paralympics

Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo has broken the world record in the women’s over 86kg Para-Powerlifting category.

At 39, she captained Team Nigeria at the 2024 Paris Paralympics and claimed a gold medal, making history as the first Para-athlete to lift 167kg.

China’s Deng Xuemei took silver with a 155kg lift, while Egypt’s Nadia Ali earned bronze with 145kg.

Oluwafemiayo’s victory boosts Nigeria’s overall Paralympic medal count to seven—two gold, three silver, and two bronze.
