On Monday, September 30, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) conducted raids on various supermarkets and open shops in Abuja, resulting in the seizure of counterfeit goods valued at N37 million.
In a statement shared on its X account on Tuesday, NAFDAC explained that the operation stemmed from intelligence gathered by its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, which led to the confiscation of numerous unregistered and counterfeit cosmetics.
This initiative is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing commitment to eradicate counterfeit and illegally imported cosmetic products from the capital.
“NAFDAC has intensified its efforts to clear the market of counterfeit and illegally imported cosmetics in Abuja. Acting on intelligence reports, the Agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate conducted coordinated raids across supermarkets and open markets, including Wuse and Garki markets. Several unregistered and counterfeit cosmetics were seized, totaling a street value of ₦37 million.
NAFDAC is dedicated to investigating the origins of these illegal products and will enforce stringent regulatory action against those involved. All confiscated items will be destroyed in accordance with the Agency’s laws and regulations to ensure public safety.
The Agency also urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.”
