Lawyer D!es in Anambra Road Accident After Deposit!ng His Mother’s Body in Mortuary.

A lawyer named Okechukwu tragically lost his life in a road accident shortly after depositing his late mother’s body at a morgue in Anambra State.

The accident occurred on the Awka section of the Awka-Enugu Expressway on the night of September 29, 2024. According to reports, Okechukwu’s vehicle collided with an abandoned stationary truck, veered off the road, and crashed into a drainage.

A relative revealed that Okechukwu had just placed his mother’s remains in the mortuary before the accident. “He thought the truck was moving, but by the time he realized it was stationary, it was too late,” the relative said.

Okechukwu had recently welcomed a newborn with his wife, whom he married in February. His sudden death has left his family and friends devastated. “He had just made funeral arrangements for his mother, and now he has joined her in the morgue. It’s a reminder of how fragile life is and the importance of treasuring each moment,” the relative added.

Criticism has been aimed at traffic officials, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), for failing to remove the abandoned truck, which posed a significant danger to motorists.

Joyce Alexander, the FRSC Commander in Anambra State, confirmed the incident and offered her condolences to Okechukwu’s family. She explained that the truck couldn’t be towed due to its heavy load, but FRSC personnel had cordoned off the area with reflective tape to alert drivers.

She added, “The accident may have been caused by excessive speed, leading to loss of control, as evidenced by skid marks at the scene.” Alexander stressed the importance of community cooperation in reporting road hazards and reminded the public to use the FRSC’s emergency number, 122.
