A man was arrested at an airport after allegedly trying to open a door mid-flight.
The intoxicated 28-year-old passenger was on a flight to Alicante, Spain. Upon landing, police apprehended him on the tarmac. Holidaymakers assisted the crew in restraining him during an incident where he became “abusive” and “compromised flight safety.”
Reports indicate he was already drunk when he boarded the plane. The situation escalated when he got into a fight with another passenger after hurling insults. According to The Mirror, he attempted to attack a staff member who intervened. There are also reports that he tried to enter the cockpit during the incident.
Local media revealed: “Sources informed Informacion that the captain contacted the Alicante control tower to report a drunk passenger on board, who had to be restrained with the help of other passengers for repeatedly compromising flight safety. The passenger reportedly boarded the plane drunk, and his condition worsened due to the effects of altitude on alcohol. He insulted and attacked fellow passengers, and when crew members intervened, he also tried to assault them.
“In the midst of the chaos, he attempted to open the plane door mid-flight and later tried to access the cockpit. Ultimately, passengers helped the crew to restrain him, and upon landing at El Altet, the Civil Guard boarded the plane and arrested him.”
Alicante airport is known for a high number of passenger conflicts, with 184 complaints last year, second only to Tenerife Sur-Reina Sofía, which had 189.
