Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that retirement may be on the horizon following his recent goal for Al-Nassr.
At 39 years old, Ronaldo is celebrated as one of the greatest footballers in history, having scored 904 career goals. His illustrious career includes stints at top clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, as well as representing the Portuguese national team.
Now playing for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has made a significant impact, contributing 64 goals and 17 assists in just 71 appearances. He found the back of the net on Monday night, helping Al-Nassr secure a 2-1 victory over Qatari side Al-Rayyan in their second AFC Champions League match of the season.
After the match, the veteran forward reflected on his career and indicated he is nearing the end of his playing days, stating that individual accolades are no longer his focus.
“I’m just enjoying playing football now, knowing I don’t have much time left on the pitch,” Ronaldo said. “It’s not important to me to be the best player or to win awards. What matters is enjoying the game and supporting my team.”
During his goal celebration, Ronaldo pointed skyward, dedicating his goal to his late father, Jose, on what would have been his 71st birthday. Jose passed away in 2005 at the age of 52 due to an alcohol-related liver condition, when Ronaldo was just 20.
Despite his age, Ronaldo continues to perform at a high level, amassing 33 trophies throughout his career.
