A man was f*tally sh*t just hours after his wedding. On Saturday, October 12, Tyrek Burton married his longtime partner, Kiara Holloway, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Sadly, just a few hours later, authorities received a report of a sho*ting near the Barber Park Events Center, where 37-year-old Tyrek was identified as the victim.
Emergency responders from Greensboro Police, Fire, and Guilford County EMS arrived at the scene. According to a dispatcher on Broadcastify, Tyrek was “possibly shot 15 times.” In a statement on Facebook, Greensboro Police confirmed officers found a wounded man in the parking lot and attempted lifesaving measures, but Tyrek died from his injuries that night. The police have not released information about suspects or motives.
Kiara’s sister, Nysheria Holloway, told WRAL that the sho*ting occurred just hours after the couple’s wedding, questioning, “Why on the wedding day? Why him?” She praised Tyrek for stepping in as a father figure for her sister’s two oldest daughters and for his dedication to providing for the family.
Jas Cash, a Facebook user, shared a wedding video and expressed her heartbreak after speaking with Kiara the night before. She asked for prayers for Kiara, her children, and Tyrek’s family. Reflecting on the loss, Kiara reportedly said, “How did I marry the love of my life and lose him the same day?”
According to The Daily Mail, Tyrek’s cousin, Keisha Statterfield, described him on a GoFundMe page as a “beloved husband, father of four beautiful girls, brother, and friend,” known for his generosity and smile. This tragic event marks Greensboro’s 32nd homicide of 2024.
