Former Italian Footballer and Cagliari Midfielder Andrea Capone Found Deceased at 43
Andrea Capone, former midfielder for Cagliari, has tragically been found dead at the age of 43. His lifeless body was discovered at the 5-star Palazzo Tirso Hotel in his native Italy on Sunday, September 29.
Local media reports indicate that Capone had been out with friends when he suffered a fall, resulting in a fatal head injury. Medical personnel were unable to revive him, and there is also speculation that he may have experienced a sudden cardiac event that led to the fall.
Born in Cagliari, Capone rose through the ranks of the local club, joining the first team at 19 and making his debut in the 2000-01 Serie B season against Crotone. He was part of the Cagliari squad in Serie A and also had stints with Sora, Treviso, Vicenza, Grosseto, and Salernitana.
During his time at Cagliari, he played 123 matches, scored 12 goals, and provided 7 assists.
In a heartfelt farewell statement, Cagliari Calcio expressed: “The bond with his homeland will remain unbreakable for a man who was always characterized by his professionalism, dedication, and passion. These qualities will stay in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, both on and off the field. Cagliari Calcio embraces his family in this moment of profound grief. Rest in peace, Andrea.”
After departing from his boyhood club, the Italian youth international had a trial with Celtic, participating in two pre-season friendlies before signing with Serie B side Vicenza. He later had brief spells at Grosseto and Salernitana before retiring in 2010.
