Bobrisky: Government Suspends Correctional Officers

The Federal Government has suspended the officers overseeing the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, following an audio leak that claimed cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in prison, was provided with an apartment outside the facility.

Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, September 26. He stated that the suspensions are intended to facilitate further investigation into the various allegations, with the findings to be made public once completed.

In response to a viral video on social media highlighting alleged misconduct by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service regarding Bobrisky, the Board has immediately suspended the following senior officers:

Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kirikiri, and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), also in Kirikiri.

Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, stationed at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, has been suspended for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate to a location outside the centre.

Furthermore, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kuje, Abuja, has also been suspended for reportedly accepting payments on behalf of an inmate.
