A woman was profoundly shaken after unearthing and opening a buried metal box in her backyard.
While gardening, Hannah discovered the hidden box during her digging.
“What could this possibly be?” she asked in her TikTok video.
“It’s definitely a box,” she confirmed.
She mentioned her father’s theory that it might be a deceased pet, though Hannah hoped that wasn’t the case.
“People usually bury pets at the edge of the garden or choose cremation, don’t they?” she wondered.
“I’m not sure. The previous owner kept birds, and I’ve found many of them.
However, it seems too large to be a bird, so I’m uncertain about what’s inside.”
Viewers quickly shared their theories in the comments section of her post.
“Could it be a time capsule?” one person suggested.
Hannah responded, “Honestly, I was naive enough to consider that possibility!” In a follow-up video, she updated her followers, confirming that it was indeed a deceased pet. “As some had guessed, it turned out to be a dead pet,” she explained.
“I’m now distressed after seeing it.
“I spent the past couple of hours digging it up and prying off the almost crumbled lid.
“The box was quite large, but upon removing the lid, I found the interior damp and mushy, containing items like a shower curtain and some fleece blankets. I was hesitant to look, but felt I had to, and discovered it was someone’s dog. I even talked to my neighbors a few doors away who knew the previous resident, and they confirmed he had a dog that passed away a few years back.”
Hannah also shared her uncertainty about handling the remains, noting that reburial would require her to remove the soggy dog from its current box and place it in a new one.
She searched online and found a service that could remove the remains, but it would come at a cost. “Burying pets in gardens is quite common, but sadly, not everyone can afford cremation and other services,” remarked someone on her video.
In response, Hannah agreed, “Absolutely, I’ve done the same in the past.
“Unfortunately, I think it was buried too shallowly and, on top of that, right next to my back door, which wasn’t the best choice!”
