Award-Winning British Photojournalist Paul Lowe Reportedly St*bbed to Death by His Son During Hiking Trip

A renowned British photojournalist, Paul Lowe, was allegedly m*rdered by his son on a popular hiking trail in California. Lowe, 60, who had covered major conflicts such as the siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian war, was found dead on October 12 in the San Gabriel Mountains.

According to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Lowe had been st*bbed in the neck.

His 19-year-old son, Emir, has been charged with m*rder and is set to appear in court for the first time on Wednesday, October 16, at the West Covina Courthouse.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated, “The homicide bureau presented the case to the District Attorney’s Office today. The DA filed one count of m*rder against Emir Lowe for the murder of his father, Christian Paul Lowe. No further information is available at this time.”

The incident reportedly took place at around 3:28 pm on Mount Baldy Road, near Stoddard Canyon Falls. The sheriff’s department reported that officers responding to a call about an assault found “a white male adult with upper torso trauma.”

The statement added that emergency personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene. A white male was seen leaving the scene and was later involved in a single-vehicle crash a few miles away. He was detained for further investigation. The investigation is ongoing, with no additional details released.

King’s College London, where Lowe was a visiting professor in war studies, expressed their sorrow over his death. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), they said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Professor Paul Lowe. A visiting professor in our Department of War Studies, a Professor of Photojournalism at the University of the Arts London, and an award-winning photojournalist with VII Academy, Paul’s work made a profound impact, particularly in documenting the Siege of Sarajevo. His energy, creativity, and warmth will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.”
