CAN Instructs Lord’s Chosen to Review Testimonies Before Presentation

The Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has directed the leadership of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries to reassess how testimonies are presented by their members during church services.

This instruction follows a viral testimony that drew widespread criticism for being misleading.

The controversial testimony involved a member who claimed that an old man appeared during an examination, provided her with the correct answers, which she then shared with a fellow examinee from the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries.

Lagos CAN Chairman, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, dismissed the testimony as “an utter fabrication” and stated that the church would be summoned to address the issue.

In a recent update to PUNCH, Adegbite confirmed that a meeting had taken place, during which the church leadership was advised to carefully review how testimonies are shared in the future.

“We met last Friday at the CAN secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. Representatives from the church were present, and we advised them to exercise caution and thoroughly review testimonies before they are shared publicly. Only someone with ill intentions would disagree with this approach,” Adegbite said.

The meeting, attended by over 100 people, including five bloc leaders of CAN and coordinators from all 57 local government areas in the state, emphasized the need for accuracy and responsibility in testimonies.

“There was unanimous agreement. We firmly reject any unreasonable or misleading testimonies that could bring disrepute to the name of Christ. It is unacceptable.

“We urged church leaders to vet testimonies from members before allowing them to speak. If a testimony is inappropriate for public sharing, it should be withheld. God still performs miracles, and it’s important that we communicate the truth and only the truth,” Adegbite added.
