Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has granted bail to former Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku, setting the amount at ₦150 million with two sureties of equal value.
The sureties must reside within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and their addresses will be verified by the court registrar. One of the sureties is required to hold the position of a director in the Federal Civil Service.
Ishaku was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges related to an alleged ₦27 billion fraud. Justice Oriji also ruled that both Ishaku and his co-defendant, Bello Hero, are prohibited from leaving the country without the court’s permission.
Rotimi Jacobs, representing the EFCC, did not oppose the bail application, stating that the agency had previously granted Ishaku administrative bail, which he had complied with.
The trial has been scheduled for November 4, 5, and 13.
Ishaku served as the governor of Taraba State from May 2015 to May 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
