Aisha Lawal, a Muslim woman, shared an insight from her friend, a Shuwa-Arab woman from Nigeria, who stated that she would leave her husband if he became poor.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 1, Lawal wrote, “Shuwa-Arab women in Northern Nigeria are incredibly beautiful. Even Northerners recognize that love alone won’t sustain a marriage, as weddings are expensive and maintaining that lifestyle is equally costly.”
Lawal recounted a conversation with her Shuwa-Arab friend, who said, “I cannot marry a poor man.” When Lawal asked what she would do if her wealthy husband lost his fortune after their wedding, the friend responded that she would leave him because she couldn’t endure a life of hardship in his home.
