Norwegian football is in mourning following the tragic passing of a midfielder from a top-flight club, who was found dead at his home. Archange Defrignan Mondou, 19, played for Eliteserien side HamKam after joining from the Ivory Coast last year.
Mondou, affectionately known as Achilles, was discovered unresponsive at his residence in Hamar, located 60 miles north of Oslo, on Tuesday. HamKam Football confirmed the devastating news, expressing their deepest condolences to Mondou’s family and loved ones, stating that the cause of death is currently unknown.
HamKam’s general manager, Bent Svele, described it as an incredibly challenging day for everyone involved. While authorities noted that there was nothing suspicious about Mondou’s passing, they have requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
He was discovered by others at his residence and passed away alone.”
Mondou had to temporarily step away from football last September following an incident during training. The midfielder was hospitalized after undergoing a medical evaluation.
