A 16-year-old girl whose remains were discovered in a freezer in January had never been reported m!ssing. In January, a Colorado couple moving into their new home found the head and hands of Amanda Leariel Overstreet. The house, located on the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue, had been previously owned by Overstreet’s parents and was sold to the new owners, with the freezer left behind.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office believes Overstreet disappeared around 2005 at the age of 16. She was recently identified, and the Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on October 11.
Although Overstreet hadn’t been seen since 2005, her family reportedly never filed a missing person report. The Sheriff’s Office explained, “On January 12, 2024, deputies responded to a suspicious incident on Pinyon Avenue. Upon arrival, they found human rema!ns in a freezer in a newly sold home.”
The statement continued, “On October 11, 2024, the Mesa County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Amanda Leariel Overstreet through DNA testing. Amanda was around 16 when she disappeared and was the biological daughter of the home’s previous owner. Her disappearance is still under investigation, with forensic testing ongoing. There’s no record of her ever being reported missing.”
Wendy Likes, the public information officer for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, told CPR News, “It’s very sad that a child went missing, and there’s no record of her being reported missing.” She emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough investigation to ensure all facts are uncovered.
