Woman’s Shocking Discovery About Fiancé Ru!ns Wedding Plans Two Months To The Wedding

A woman has shared her story of being just months away from marrying her so-called dream partner, only to discover he wasn’t the “true gentleman” he appeared to be. Megan Clarke, 27, wasn’t looking for love when Lord Bertie Underwood entered her life, but his charm, thoughtfulness, and lavish gifts quickly won her over. However, Megan’s fairy tale romance did not have a happy ending.

Megan told Metro that she met Bertie in 2017 when he visited the bar where she worked on the Isle of Wight, UK.

After a month of extravagant dates, rides in his Bentley, and gifts from Harrods, she moved into his luxurious beachfront home. On Christmas Day, Bertie proposed with a Cartier diamond ring, promising that Megan would become a “Lady.” She even left her job to work at Bertie’s watch-selling business. But as the saying goes, “if it seems too good to be true…”

Growing Suspicions

About a year and a half into the relationship, Megan’s suspicions were raised when letters addressed to other people started arriving at their home. After searching Bertie’s office, she found more letters with unfamiliar names. An online search revealed that Bertie was actually a con artist named Robert Madejski.

Megan learned that he had opened several credit cards in her name, leaving her with around $40,000 in debt. She wasn’t the only victim—Madejski had also reportedly used Grindr to scam men.

Megan’s Warning

Megan describes herself as a “trusting person until given a reason not to be,” acknowledging that Madejski was highly skilled at deception and never made a mistake.

She reflected: “He built relationships with all sorts of people, differing in gender, age, and type. This lack of consistency shows there were never any real feelings involved.”

Madejski was arrested on unrelated fraud charges, escaped while serving a five-year sentence, and is still at large. Megan is now part of Channel 4’s documentary Love Cheats to raise awareness. She said, “I’m certain he’s conning someone else right now, and they don’t know his true identity. I hope by making his face known, it will help lead to his capture.”
