Police have detained a teenage boy suspected of f*tally shooting his family members at their home on October 21. The authorities have not yet released the boy’s name, but he is believed to have sh*t his father, a software engineer, his mother, and his four siblings at their $2 million residence in Washington, according to sources. One of his sisters, aged 11, managed to escape despite being injured and is now in ‘satisfactory condition’ at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, as reported by hospital spokesperson Susan Gregg.
The victims’ names or ages have not been disclosed, except for the parents, Mark Humiston, 42, and his wife Sarah. The incident took place at their mansion near Lake Alice in Fall City, an area with some of America’s most expensive homes, located roughly 30 miles east of Seattle.
According to LinkedIn, Mark Humiston, originally from Texas, was an Associate Principal at Hargis Engineers in Seattle, having worked there for nearly two decades. King County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Mile Mellis, referred to the event as a ‘domestic violence incident involving a young man and firearms.’ He also mentioned that the police encountered ‘no significant confrontation’ when apprehending the teenager at the scene.
Mellis stated: “It’s very early stages of this investigation, but it’s going to affect many people. I can say that it’s going to be really a tragic event for the community, for anybody who has any connection out here.” He highlighted the overall safety of Fall City, noting its generally low crime rate and reputation as a family-oriented place.
Neighbors expressed shock over the tragedy when speaking to the local media. One neighbor told KOMO News that the children were “the sweetest, so polite” and homeschooled, adding that the situation is “just unfathomable.” Another neighbor confirmed that the couple lived there with their five children, and police believe all involved in the incident are related.
On Tuesday, the 15-year-old’s defense attorney informed the court that the boy has no prior criminal record and requested that his name not be released pending a charging decision, which the judge agreed to.
