Michael Anugwa Denies Suspension from Nigerian Correctional Service
Michael Anugwa, the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and officer in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-Kiri, Lagos, has stated that he has not been suspended by the service. Anugwa, who oversaw the detention of popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, made this assertion during a session with the House of Representatives investigation panel.
He emphasized that he has yet to receive any official suspension letter, saying, “It was a social media report. I wasn’t served a letter.”
This follows a statement released last Thursday, September 30, by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board, which announced the suspension of Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, the Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre in Kiri-Kiri.
The statement, signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, indicated the suspensions were necessary to facilitate further investigations into various allegations, with the results to be made public once concluded. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, shared the notice on his X account.
