The announcement that Erik ten Hag will stay on as Manchester United’s manager, despite the team’s eighth-place finish in the Premier League, has been welcomed by club icon Paul Scholes.

However, Scholes stresses the need for significant improvements from Ten Hag and his squad in the upcoming season. In an Instagram post, Scholes said,

“It’s good to hear this news, though I felt the Palace defeat was a turning point… We need substantial progress, but at least there’s stability and no need for a new management team to acclimate… The fans have been incredibly supportive and deserve a better performance next season.”

Manchester United had considered several potential replacements for Ten Hag, including Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, and Kieran McKenna. At 54, Ten Hag is determined to prove that retaining him is the right decision for the club’s success next season.
