Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Christian Ministry, has called on clergymen to stop financially exploiting their congregants by urging them to sow seeds for prosperity.
In a sermon delivered on Friday, October 18, Pastor Kumuyi stressed that church members should be receiving help and solutions from their pastors, not being taken advantage of through the practice of seed sowing. He referenced Elijah’s example of offering assistance to those in need, such as impoverished widows, and urged preachers to uplift the poor rather than taking from them.
Kumuyi criticized those who persuade widows to give all they have with promises of a hundredfold return, questioning the well-being of those who have given everything, asking how they and their children are doing now. He emphasized that preachers should be supporting widows and their families, rather than using their resources to enrich themselves.
Expressing concern over church leaders accumulating wealth at the expense of their congregations, Kumuyi urged prophets, pastors, and bishops to recognize that this practice is wrong. He encouraged a shift towards aiding the needy, highlighting Elisha’s example of providing supernatural support to struggling widows.
