LASTMA Dismisses Six Officials

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed six officials in response to directives from the Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC).

This action, which follows the commission’s recommendations, is intended to promote discipline and efficiency within the agency.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA’s General Manager, announced the decision in a statement on Thursday, which was signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq. He explained that the terminations were due to significant misconduct and inefficiencies identified by the Personnel Management Board.

“Formal disciplinary notices were issued to the affected officers at LASTMA’s Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos,” said Mr. Bakare-Oki. “The Lagos State Civil Service Commission fully supported the recommendations made by the Personnel Management Board, which addressed serious misconduct and overall inefficiencies.” He assured that the disciplinary measures were implemented in accordance with the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

Additionally, the General Manager announced plans for another session of the Personnel Management Board to review additional officers implicated in misconduct. He reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to improving operations and encouraged Lagos residents to provide feedback and report any misconduct along with evidence.

“This is an ongoing effort to cleanse the agency of errant officers. Another session of the Personnel Management Board will be held soon to address further issues involving LASTMA officials,” Mr. Bakare-Oki stated.

He also reminded road users in Lagos to comply with traffic regulations, warning that violations could lead to penalties, including fines imposed by the Lagos Mobile Courts, as mandated by law.

Mr. Bakare-Oki further highlighted the importance of effective traffic management in realizing the “Greater Lagos” vision outlined in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Development Agenda, emphasizing that traffic management and transportation are crucial to its success.
