Haitian Presidential Transitional Council President Goes Viral for Gulping from Large Jug During UN General Assembly Speech

Haiti’s transitional leader, Edgar Leblanc Fils, drew attention during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for an unexpected moment.

While addressing the assembly, Fils took an unconventional approach to quench his thirst by reaching for a large pitcher of water. Unfortunately, his attempt backfired as he spilled water on his suit, seemingly missing his mouth entirely before quickly returning the pitcher to the podium.

The incident has ignited discussions online, with social media users humorously commenting on the situation. Some speculated whether it was a failure on the part of UN staff for not providing a glass, while others questioned the authenticity of the moment. Reactions ranged from disbelief—”No way this is real? Is this legit?”—to empathetic remarks about the absence of a simple drinking glass.

Fils’s ascent to leadership followed the removal of former Prime Minister Ariel Henry by armed gangs in Haiti earlier this year. As President of the Presidential Council of the Transition of the Republic of Haiti, Fils is tasked with establishing a new government in a nation grappling with significant challenges, including a migration crisis as many Haitians seek entry into the United States.
