Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps Convicts Twelve for Prost!tution and Breach of Peace

On Wednesday, October 3, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), commonly known as KAI, secured the conviction of twelve commercial s*x workers to eight months in prison for offenses related to prostitution and breach of peace during a dislodgment operation led by the Corps Marshal.

Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) announced the convictions at the Agency’s Command Headquarters in Bolade-Oshodi, Lagos. He emphasized that the government’s THEMES agenda highlights the need for a business-friendly environment in Lagos. The situation in Obalende had worsened over time, necessitating a large-scale enforcement operation against those undermining the community.

The convicted individuals were identified as Oluwaseun Durojaye (20), Joy Felix (24), Opeyemi Azeez (25), Precious Mathew (24), Happiness Kingsley (24), Theresa Edet (30), Ayo Olanrewaju (20), Monica Ebuka (21), Blessing James (22), Favour Samuel (34), Janet Ighumba (24), and Marvis Ifeoma (32). They were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Adefioye of the Special Offences Court at Oshodi under Sections 142(1)(a)(b) and 168(1)(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State. Twelve of the nineteen suspects received eight-month sentences, while the remaining seven, who pleaded not guilty, were remanded in custody until December 18 for further hearings.

Cole praised the court’s decision, reaffirming that the Agency remains resolute in its mission, despite facing challenges and attacks on its operatives. He warned that anyone arrested for violations would face the full consequences of the law.

Additionally, Cole cautioned street traders and hawkers against displaying goods on roadways, urging pedestrians to utilize pedestrian bridges when crossing highways. He warned that those who disregard these regulations would also face arrest and prosecution for endangering their safety.
