Viewers of the Joker sequel have been left stunned by a particular scene that many believe “ruined the movie.” Joker: Folie à Deux, the follow-up to the 2019 Joker, premiered globally earlier this month.
Despite the high anticipation surrounding the sequel, numerous audience members feel it has fallen short of expectations.
Currently, the film holds a disappointing 33 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, with some moviegoers walking out of theaters after just an hour, feeling underwhelmed. One user on Rotten Tomatoes remarked, “This film was so bad that I joined Rotten Tomatoes for the first time ever just to leave a review.”
Another reviewer noted, “The story was slow and boring, and it never really went anywhere. There was too much singing from Lady Gaga, and I didn’t like the ending either.”
However, not all reviews were negative. One five-star review stated, “It’s probably not for everyone. Those who appreciate depth and can immerse themselves in the story will love it. The acting was phenomenal.”
While many viewers were generally unimpressed with the Joker sequel, a specific scene led some to claim it “ruined the movie.”
For those who haven’t seen the film yet, please be aware that the following contains spoilers for the final act.
After following the narrative for most of the film, many were taken aback by one particular scene where Arthur Fleck insults Arkham’s guards, who then respond by severely beating him.
While nothing expl!cit is shown on screen, the guards are seen wiping off Arthur’s makeup before an implied assault in the shower.
There is an online debate about whether Arthur was s*xually assaulted or simply beaten up by the guards. Nonetheless, many have taken to Twitter to share their opinions on the scene.
One person wrote, “The Joker gets gang r*ped by prison guards in Joker 2. I’m very glad I won’t watch this movie in full. They ruined the first movie’s legacy, which resonated with so many.”
Another added, “That scene almost brought me to tears. Thank goodness I don’t have serious emotional triggers because that movie cuts deep.”
