Activist Aisha Yesufu has criticized the National Assembly for launching an investigation into bribery allegations against cross-dresser Bobrisky.
In September, social critic VeryDarkMan released an audio clip claiming it involved Bobrisky and a man discussing a N15 million bribe to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges, along with arrangements for Bobrisky’s godfather to secure him a private apartment for a six-month jail sentence. The House of Representatives responded by setting up an inquiry panel.
In a video posted on October 21, Yesufu questioned why lawmakers were prioritizing this issue instead of addressing more pressing national problems. She argued that despite Nigeria’s deteriorating state, the focus is on what she called a “minor” case involving Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan.
Calling the panel a disgrace, Yesufu said, “This entire Bobrisky situation is ridiculous. In a country where citizens are starving and suffering severe hardship, the National Assembly is fixated on Bobrisky. It’s absurd. Agencies like the EFCC, Police, and ICPC should handle these matters, but the National Assembly focuses on trivialities.”
She added, “The National Assembly has become a useless institution. You have significant power as lawmakers, from creating laws to holding the executive accountable and performing oversight, yet you’re wasting time on petty matters. What’s wrong with you?”
Yesufu also addressed Bobrisky’s attempted escape when intercepted by Nigeria Immigration at the Seme Border on October 20: “Where is he, or depending on pronouns, she, running to? If you’ve been summoned, face it. If you were on that phone, own up. If not, clarify it. Whatever the case, face the consequences. Why try to flee?”
