Actor John Amos’ Daughter Suspects Father’s Will Was Changed Without Family Knowing

Shannon Amos, daughter of American actor John Amos, alleges that her late father’s will was altered without the family’s knowledge amid ongoing family disputes following his death.

John Amos, renowned for his roles in Roots and Good Times, passed away on August 21, although the news wasn’t made public until October 1. Family members revealed they only learned of his death through media reports.

In a statement shared with her goddaughter, Amy Goudy, Shannon claimed that her brother, KC Amos, isolated their father from the rest of the family. In an interview with TMZ, she expressed her belief that KC, along with her father’s alleged publicist, Belinda Foster, and Eugene Brummet, manipulated Amos’ will prior to his passing.

Shannon reported difficulties in finding any official documentation that identified Foster as her father’s publicist, referring to KC, Foster, and Brummett as “grifters” who entered her father’s life at KC’s behest.

“We believe that the three of them conspired to take advantage of my father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Lewy body dementia in 2016,” she stated, adding that she has documented evidence from the hospital. However, she noted that Amos had shown improvement and was “doing really well until about 2022,” when it became evident he required assistance.

After KC moved in, he began accusing a caregiver of stealing from him. The family was reportedly unaware that their father had been cremated just nine days after his death.

When asked about the cremation, Shannon expressed suspicion, stating there are “many reasons” at play. She highlighted that her father had “the best insurance” through SAG-AFTRA and should have received treatment at Cedars-Sinai, rather than being taken to a hospital in Inglewood, which she found troubling.

Shannon indicated plans to pursue a police investigation, citing concerns raised by her father’s primary caregiver regarding KC allegedly withholding medication.

Additionally, she revealed that her father had been battling cancer and was due for treatment that never occurred. Concerning her father’s will, Shannon claimed her uncle was responsible for managing his estate, asserting that KC frequently pressured their father to sign new documents, leading to numerous revisions of the will.

She stated that her uncle was “constantly” redoing the wills and mentioned having a statement from her brother acknowledging his manipulation of their father regarding the wills.

While KC has not yet responded to these allegations, Belinda Foster denied them in a statement to People, claiming to have represented John Amos for over 30 years and describing their relationship as familial.

“In recent years, he often referred to me as his ‘daughter.’ This was not a fraud by John, KC, or myself. He was like a father to me, and I deeply mourn his passing,” she said.

Foster also rejected Shannon’s claims of elder abuse, asserting that she, KC, Eugene, and others cared for Amos and noted that law enforcement had previously confirmed his well-being amid earlier allegations of abuse made by Shannon.
