Kwara Police Take Dismissed Officers to Court Over Polytechnic Student’s K!lling

The Kwara State Police Command has arraigned three officers, Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip, following their dismissal for the k!lling of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student at Kwara State Polytechnic.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on October 18, the dismissed officers are facing charges of cr!minal conspiracy and culpable hom!cide in connection with Ishola’s death. They have been remanded in prison pending further court proceedings.

Ishola, a second-year Electrical/Electronics Engineering student, was reportedly sh*t by police during a protest against fuel price hikes in Ilorin’s Fate area on September 4, 2024. The incident drew widespread outrage, leading the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to transfer the case to police headquarters in Abuja.
