In a series of intelligence-driven operations, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested ten suspects, including eight Boko Haram terrorists (BHT) and two informants linked to notorious k!dnappers, as part of ongoing efforts to bolster security in Taraba State.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, announced the arrests in a statement on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops conducted a raid on September 29, 2024, targeting the residence of terr*rist leader Tukura Abdul-Kareem in Sunkani Ward, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.
The operation resulted in the capture of Abdul-Kareem and seven other suspects who had traveled from various states to join his t*rror cell.
Investigations revealed that the eight Boko Haram suspects were planning to establish a sleeper cell in Taraba State with intentions to carry out Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on civilians and key infrastructure. Abdul-Kareem confessed to being a long-time member of Boko Haram.
Among the items recovered from the suspects were nine mobile phones, identity cards, and various controlled substances, including suspected mar!juana and other hard drvgs.
In a separate operation on September 30, 2024, troops stationed in Chachanji village, Takum LGA, apprehended two informants tied to a prominent k!dnapping syndicate.
These informants had been relaying troop movements to assist a wanted criminal, helping identify potential k!dnapping targets among local businessmen.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their outstanding commitment and professionalism in carrying out these successful operations.
He remarked that their swift action disrupted a dangerous t*rror plot and protected countless lives.
General Uwa also thanked the citizens of Taraba State for their ongoing vigilance and cooperation, stressing that their support is essential in the military’s efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
