Dogs do not live as long as humans or some other animals, their average life expectancy is between 10 to 13 years although it varies depending on the size and breed of the dog. But there are some dogs who become an exception and live much longer than expected, breaking records. One of them was Bluey, who was the former oldest dog in the world after living for almost 3 decades. Bluey lived for 29 years and 5 months but his record has been broken Bobi who has lived over 29 years and 5 months.
Bobi from Leiria, Portugal, has received the Guinness World Record for being the oldest dog in the world after becoming 30 years and 267 days old on the 2nd of February, 2023. Bobi’s birth date was confirmed the Veterinary Medical service that is located in his area where he was registered after he was born in the year 1992. What’s most fascinating is that Bobi’s breed life expectancy is usually 12 to 14 years.
The owner of Bobi, Leonel Costa, revealed to Guinness World Record that he got Bobi when he was 8 years old, when one of their family dogs gave birth to 4 puppies. His parents decided not to keep the puppies because they already had too many pets. But when the time came for taking the puppies away, his parents forgot Bobi behind. Costa and his siblings found Bobi and hid him secretly until his parents later found out.
“I confess that when they found out, they screamed a lot and punished us, but it was worth it and for a good reason,” Costa said
Costa praises Bobi’s age breaking record to living in a calm and peaceful environment, unlike the busy cities. Coasta said that Bobi has never been chained in his life or attached to any form of leash. He has always allowed Bobi to move freely inside the forests, their farmland and their family’s home.
He described Bobi as a very sociable dog who relates well with other animals including cats. He also said that eating human food is one of the things he believed that has helped Bobi live for so long. He said that the food is soaked in water to remove the seasoning which is not good for dogs.
“Between a can of animal food or a piece of meat, Bobi doesn’t hesitate and chooses our food.” Costa Said
At the time of writing this post, Bobi is still alive and set to turn 31 years old soon.
