Simon Cowell has disclosed his dislike for using a mobile phone, which has left many surprised. Despite his reputation for being innovative and playing a key role in One Direction’s ascent to stardom, he favors a more conventional approach to technology. This indicates that he does not engage in late-night browsing of TikTok fan-cams, contrary to what some might have assumed.
During an interview with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie on Capital XTRA Breakfast, Simon Cowell elaborated on his choice to steer clear of mobile phones, including iPhones and Androids. When asked if he possesses a mobile phone, he responded with a straightforward “No.” Robert expressed surprise, questioning, “In 2024? You don’t have a mobile phone?” Cowell maintained his stance, prompting further inquiry. The notion of a person of his wealth not owning a mobile phone is indeed unexpected.
Simon Cowell compared mobile phones to household appliances such as toasters and irons, describing them as mundane. He clarified that while he does utilize them at home, he does not carry them around. When questioned about staying informed with social media, he indicated that he checks it while at home, without specifying the device he uses.
Marie asked if he relies on his phone for calls, navigation, or ride-sharing services when out, to which Cowell responded firmly with a “No.” He characterized his lifestyle as living in a ‘bubble’, only keeping abreast of significant events.
Marie remarked, “Your life seems very peaceful.” Indeed, Cowell’s way of living appears calm. He suggested that others should try his phone-free lifestyle, even if only for a month. Reflecting on their discussion, Robert noted that he’ll now think of his phone as a toaster whenever he reaches for it.
