Namibia is considering introducing a tourist visa for UK visitors in response to the UK’s new visa requirements for Namibians. Previously, Namibians could enter the UK visa-free for up to six months, but an increase in asylum claims has led the UK to tighten travel rules.
British High Commissioner Charles Moore mentioned that Namibians who booked their trips to the UK before July 19, 2023, can enter without a visa until August 16, 2023. However, Namibians currently in the UK will need a visitor visa for future visits once they leave. For other purposes like work or study, Namibians must continue to obtain a visa.
Namibia also announced that citizens from 31 countries, including major markets like Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the US, will need to apply for a visa upon arrival. This policy requires an online application and fee payment. Namibia charges a £95 per person tourist visa fee for other nations.
Commissioner Moore acknowledged Namibia’s plan to establish a new visa regime for 31 countries and stressed that each country is responsible for its border security. The UK has seen an increase in arrivals and issued more entry visas in the year ending March 2024 compared to the previous year.
