President Tinubu has announced that his administration is making notable progress in combating terrorism and banditry.
In his Independence Day address on the morning of October 1, he said:
“My administration took over the leadership of our country 16 months ago at a pivotal moment. The economy faced numerous obstacles, and our physical security was deeply compromised. We stood at a critical juncture, forced to choose between two paths: reform for progress and prosperity or continuing with business as usual and risking collapse. We chose to reform our political economy and defense systems.
Regarding security, I am pleased to share with you, my fellow citizens, that we are winning the fight against terror and banditry. Our goal is to eradicate all threats posed by Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and all forms of violent extremism. In just one year, our forces have eliminated Boko Haram and bandit commanders at an unprecedented pace. To date, over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been neutralized by our courageous troops in the Northeast, Northwest, and other parts of the country.”
