On November 7, 2003, Antron Singleton was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of m*rdering his 21-year-old roommate, Tynisha Ysais, and consuming parts of her body.
Ysais’ body was discovered by a friend in their apartment, showing signs of v!olence with bite marks on her face and lungs, and a broken knife blade l*dged in her shoulder blade.
Witnesses reported finding Singleton, known as Big Lurch in the rap scene, standing n*ked in the street and staring at the sky. Medical examinations later revealed that he had human flesh in his stomach that did not belong to him. Ysais’ boyfriend stated that both he and the rapper had taken the drug PCP the day before the m*rder.
While the rapper pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity during his trial, he was found guilty of m*rder and aggravated mayhem, resulting in a life sentence behind bars.
The court supported the prosecution’s argument that dr*g use could not serve as a valid basis for an insanity plea. Big Lurch later spoke about his actions, claiming he believed the world was ending and felt the need to “k!ll the devil” before it happened.
He stated, “All I can remember is that the world was going to end. I had to find the devil to k! ll him before it was too late. That was the last thought I had.”
After m*rdering Tynisha and consuming parts of her body, he ran outside n*ked and covered in blood, where a neighbor spotted him and went to check on the 21-year-old, ultimately discovering her deceased. He later stated that he “didn’t know” he was eating human flesh, recalling that the next thing he remembered was “waking up in a room.”
PCP, an anesthetic drug, can block pain but also induce severe hallucinations. Users can enter a “severe psychotic state,” as noted by FRANK, which impairs clear thinking and blurs the line between reality and imagination, leading to abnormal behavior. This drug poses significant risks to both m*ntal and physical health, making individuals, like Antron Singleton, a danger to those around them, as he proved to be to Tynisha Ysais.
